Postgraduate Program in Mathematics
The Coordination of the Postgraduate Program in Mathematics (PPGMAT) at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES) hereby announces the present call for applications for a postdoctoral position within the scope of the Program for Reducing Asymmetries in Postgraduate Studies (PRAPG, Call 14/2023 – CAPES).
1. OBJECTIVE
The main objective of the Postdoctoral Program is to promote the further academic training of researchers who have completed their PhDs in Mathematics within the past five (5) years, providing them with the opportunity to conduct advanced research in a stimulating academic environment.
2. AVAILABLE POSITIONS
One (1) postdoctoral position will be offered in one of the research lines of the Postgraduate Program in Mathematics at UFES (see https://matematica.ufes.br/pt-br/pos-graduacao/PPGMAT/linhas-de-pesquisa).
3. SCHOLARSHIP AND APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
The scholarship will last for 12 months. The current monthly value of the scholarship is R$ 5,200.00, as defined by CAPES Ordinance No. 33 of February 16, 2023, or another that may replace it. The scholarship award will follow the CAPES regulations that govern the National Postdoctoral Program – PNPD (Ordinance 86/2013). In particular, all the following requirements listed in Article 5 of the said Ordinance must be met by the candidate:
I – Hold a PhD degree, at the time of the scholarship implementation, obtained in courses evaluated by CAPES and recognized by CNE/MEC. In the case of a degree obtained from foreign institutions, it must be analyzed by the Postgraduate Program;
II – Provide an updated curriculum on the CNPq Lattes Platform or, if a foreigner, a curriculum with a history of patent registration and/or publication of impactful scientific and technological works and/or academic merit awards, according to Annex
III of CAPES Ordinance 86/2013; III – Not be retired or in an equivalent situation;
IV – The candidate can apply in one of the following categories:
a) Be Brazilian or a foreigner residing in Brazil with a temporary visa, without an employment relationship;
b) Be a foreigner residing abroad, without an employment relationship;
c) Be a professor or researcher in Brazil with an employment relationship in higher education institutions or public research institutions.
§ 1º The foreign candidate residing abroad must provide proof of residential address abroad at the time of application submission;
§ 2º Substitute professors may be approved in category “a” of item IV, without prejudice to their teaching activities, after analysis and authorization by the Postgraduate Program;
§ 3º Approved candidates in category “c” of item IV must present proof of leave from their home institution for a period compatible with the scholarship duration.
§ 4º Approved candidates in category “c” of item IV may not undertake postdoctoral work at the same institution with which they have an employment relationship. The candidate must be a young PhD, having obtained their degree no more than 5 years ago, with research experience. Furthermore, they must be available for full-time dedication to the research activities, which will be carried out in person at the PPGMAT/UFES facilities.
4. REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION
Properly completed application form (access the link: https://forms.gle/NBu1ksFh2MUN2yYH7), which must include the following documents:
a) Digitized copy of the Cadastro de Pessoa Física (CPF) and the Identity Card (RG), if the candidate is Brazilian, or the passport pages containing the photo and personal data if the candidate is a foreigner.
b) Updated Curriculum Vitae generated on the CNPq Lattes Platform or, if a foreigner, a curriculum according to the model in Annex III of CAPES Ordinance 86/2013 (see: https://www.gov.br/capes/pt-br/centrais-de-conteudo/portaria-86-2013-regulamento-pnpd-pdf/view);
c) Copy of the PhD diploma or defense minutes;
d) PDF copy of the research project in one of the research lines of the Postgraduate Program in Mathematics at UFES (see https://matematica.ufes.br/pt-br/pos-graduacao/PPGMAT/linhas-de-pesquisa) to be developed during the postdoctoral period (maximum of 5 pages, written in Portuguese or English), with the indication and consent of at least one PPGMAT/UFES faculty member for supervision (eliminatory and classificatory criteria).
e) Two letters of recommendation from a Professor/Researcher affiliated with an educational/research institution, which must be sent to the email posdoc.ppgmatufes [at] gmail.com by June 21, 2024.
5. SELECTION
Analysis of the Curriculum Vitae and the research project; Evaluation of the academic record and research experience; Interview, if necessary.
6. SCHEDULE
Application period: 05/24/2024 to 06/21/2024;
Preliminary results announcement: 06/26/2024;
Appeals against preliminary results: 06/27/2024 to 06/28/2024;
Final results announcement: from 07/03/2024 onwards.
7. FINAL PROVISIONS
Only applications submitted within the deadline specified in item 6 of this call will be accepted.
The implementation of the postdoctoral scholarship and the commencement of activities will only occur after the approved candidate signs a document, provided by PPGMAT, committing to dedicate themselves fully to the approved project throughout the scholarship period.
