SIMPLIFIED SELECTION PROCESS – REGULAR STUDENT FOR 2024/2
The Coordination of the Graduate Program in Mathematics of the Center for Exact Sciences of the Federal University of Espírito Santo (PPGMAT-UFES), in the exercise of its regimental attributions, makes public the Selection Process for REGULAR STUDENT with the beginning of activities in August 2024, referring to the semester 2024/2.
GENERAL PROVISIONS
The regulations related to the program can be found in the PPGMAT-UFES Regulations and in the General Graduate Regulations of the Federal University of Espírito Santo.
Information can be obtained digitally through the PPGMAT-UFES program page or requested via email pos.ppgmat [at] ufes.br.
VACANCIES
20 vacancies will be offered for the Master's in Mathematics of PPGMAT.
The rules and criteria for affirmative actions in this announcement will follow Resolution 01/2024 of PPGMAT-UFES.
There will be no obligation to fill all vacancies.
APPLICATIONS
Applications for the Selection Process for REGULAR STUDENT will be made from 07/03/2024 (Wednesday) to 07/19/2024 (Friday) in the Selection Process Registration Form for regular student available on the program's website, in the Selection Process tab (access it at: PPGMAT selection processes). The digitally signed document is as described in the Signature Protocol(s) contained in this file, where its authenticity can be verified.
Registration must be done by filling out the specific form with the requested information and attaching the mandatory digitized documents listed in Annex I of this announcement.
Applications will be accepted from students who graduated in courses from the two major areas: Exact and Earth Sciences and Engineering according to the classification available on the CNPq page (access it at: areas of knowledge).
In the case of an undergraduate student in the last year, registration can be done by presenting an enrollment statement indicating that the student is a finalist in the course. Enrollment, when applicable, will only occur with the presentation of the Course Completion Certificate.
In the case of graduation carried out at a foreign institution, the Selection Committee will consider its scientific prestige.
For selection purposes, indicate up to 2 (two) names for the issuance of recommendation letters.
Each recommendation letter must be submitted by a faculty member indicated in the registration form through the online form available on the program's website, in the Selection Process tab (access it at: PPGMAT selection processes).
The period for sending recommendation letters is from 07/03/2024 (Wednesday) to 07/19/2024 (Friday).
After receiving the application, the candidate will receive a confirmation of registration via the email registered in the application form.
It is the candidate's responsibility to ensure that the files attached to their application are legible.
The acceptance/rejection of applications will be published on the program's website, in the Selection Process tab (access at: PPGMAT selection processes).
SELECTION PROCESS AND CRITERIA
The selection process consists of Document Analysis. The PPGMAT-UFES Selection and Scholarship Committee assigns a score from 0 to 10, designated for each item:
Transcript analysis (Maximum score of 5 points): a) Analysis of completed Mathematics courses: Real Analysis, Algebra, Linear Algebra I and II, Arithmetic, Metric Spaces, General Topology, Complex Variable, Fourier Analysis, and Differential Geometry (0.05 times the sum of the grades obtained in the above courses or equivalents, considering grades from 0 to 10). b) Evaluation of the undergraduate course by MEC (0.5 points for courses with a grade of 4 or 5; 0.35 for courses with a grade of 3; 0.15 for courses with a grade of 2).
Analysis of documented Lattes CV (Maximum score of 4 points): a) Scientific initiation or directed study (0.5 points per semester - maximum of 2 points); b) Presentation/Publication of work at scientific events (0.25 points per work - maximum of 2 points); c) Monitoring/Teaching in higher education in related subjects (0.25 points per subject - maximum of 1 point); d) Participation in scientific events (0.25 points per event - maximum score of 1 point); e) Awards and distinctions (0.2 points per item - maximum score of 1 point);
Performance in the summer course held in the last 2 years. Summer courses linked to graduate programs in mathematics will be accepted, taking into account the program's rating (0.25 points per course times the grade obtained - maximum 0.5 points).
Analysis of recommendation letters (Score from 0 to 0.5 per letter).
The candidate who obtains a final score less than or equal to 6 (six) in the selection process will be disqualified.
APPEALS
The period for submitting appeals and questioning any results will be up to 2 business days after the publication of the respective result.
Appeals must be sent to the email ppgmat.ufes.inscricao [at] gmail.com with the subject "REGULAR STUDENT APPEAL 2024".
The body of the email must contain the full identification of the candidate and the justifications or questions of what is in disagreement.
The appeal will be analyzed by the PPGMAT Selection and Scholarship Committee and individually responded to.
After analyzing the appeals, the final result will be published on 08/05/2024.
ENROLLMENT
The period for enrollment as a REGULAR STUDENT in the program will be from 08/12/2024 to 09/06/2024. The digitally signed document is as described in the Signature Protocol(s) contained in this file, where its authenticity can be verified.
FINAL PROVISIONS
Any deadline in the announcement that ends on a non-business day will be automatically extended to the next business day.
Cases not covered by this announcement will be resolved by the PPGMAT Selection and Scholarship Committee.
EXPECTED DATES
Application for the selection process: 07/03/2024 (Wednesday) to 07/19/2024 (Friday).
Completion/Online submission of Recommendation Letter: until 07/19/2024 (Friday).
Approval of applications: 07/24/2024 (Wednesday).
Receipt of appeal against approval of applications: until 07/26/2024 (Friday).
Publication of appeal analyses for applications: 07/29/2024 (Monday).
Publication of preliminary result: 08/01/2024 (Thursday).
Publication of appeal analyses for results and final result: 08/05/2024.
Enrollment period in the program: 08/12/2024 to 09/06/2024.
Start of the academic period: 08/19/2024 (Monday).
